Video| Jay-Z Balling At LIV In Miami!

by Archna on 19/08/2011

Jay-Z made a guest appearance at LIV nightclub last Sunday to celebrate the release of the highly anticipated joint Kanye West album, ‘Watch the Throne’.

During the night, Jay-Z bought US$250,000 worth of Armand de Brignac Champagne, setting the record for the most amount of Armand de Brignac bottles bought at the club, a record previously held by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who’d bought Armand de Brignac when his team won the NBA championships earlier this year.

Four men ensured Jay was never short of supply as they carried out champagne in a Roman Litter – a one-off, handcrafted golden icebucket that holds 20 regular-sized bottles or one of the Champagne brand’s record-breaking  30L Midas bottles – the largest luxury Champagne bottle in the world.

Other guests at the club that night include Kim Porter, Larry Johnson, Meek Mill, Flo Rida, Daddy Yankee and DJ Clue

Watch the video of all the action above…. looked like it was a fun night!

‘Watch The Throne’ shot to No. 1 on iTunes album sales charts on its first day of release Monda in the U.S & U.K as well as  21 other countries including Australia, Mexico, New Zealand. and multiple European territories.

In related news Jay-Z and Kanye West dedicated a track off their new album, ‘Watch the Throne’, to a slain college student.

“Murder to Excellence” starts off with Jay-Z saying, “This is to the memory of Danroy Henry. Too much enemy fire to catch a friendly.”

Henry, a student at Pace University in New York who went by the nickname DJ, was shot by police in October during a disturbance outside a bar.

Jay-Z and Kanye’s ‘Watch The Throne’ is on track to sell at least 400,000 to 500,000 copies in its first week in the U.S., according to reports.

That would instantly become the second-largest sales week of the year, behind Lady Gaga’s 1.1 million opener for “Born This Way.”

Billboard say that predicting the exact first week numbers is complex. Explaining:

Predicting “Throne’s” first week is tricky because of its unique release rollout. Traditionally, albums drop to all retailers on Tuesdays. However, “Throne” secured a Monday street date, but only through iTunes. So, its first four days of release will consist mostly of sales via Apple (with physical street-date violation sales mixed in), while the remaining three days of its first week will be a blend of physical and digital.

‘Watch The Throne’ Album Artwork!

by Archna on 08/08/2011

Def Jam have released the images for the ‘Watch The Throne’ album artwork. The press release reads:

The Deluxe packaging for Watch The Throne is high-end art created by acclaimed designer Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy. The softpack, when opened up, turns into a cross-like shape printed on gold mylar with Tisci’s patterns embossed throughout. The package also includes an 18-panel poster that features Tisci’s artwork as well as lyrics to the entire album. The CD is a special edition black colored disc which is not standard with normal packaging. In tune with his codes for Givenchy, Riccardo Tiscicreated an artwork that channels most of his aesthetics: symmetry, lightness, darkness, sharpness and 3D.
