Gaga pays tribute to the Big Apple by posing as the Statue of Liberty alongside fashion guru Marc Jacobs on the fall cover of V Magazine.

Posing with Jacobs, a shopping cart and an old TV set, Gaga stands in a black lace bra and panties with a gray dress sliding off her body while Jacobs remains serious and firm, sitting on top of the television in a traditional black-and-white suit.

Just last year, the singer appeared on the fall issue of the magazine donning Jacobs-designed pieces.

In the issue, which is on sale now, V Magazine highlights some of New York’s most profound figures, people they say:

Are making the city their own way.”

Anna Wintour joined New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and several of the city’s biggest fashion stars to announce the plans for Manhattan’s Fashion’s Night Out on September 7.

Marc Jacobs, Mary-Kate Olsen, Donna Karan,Tommy Hilfiger, Diane Von Furstenberg, Tory Burch and Fransisco Costa all stood side-by-side as the Mayor announced the fashionable festivities this year.

The men and women standing up here are the fashion-world stars,” Bloomberg began. “If they say that bootcut pants are back in style, then bootcut pants are back in style. If they say capes are en vogue, then capes are en vogue.”

Marc Jacobs then took to the lectern to share his experience of last year’s Fashions Night Out:

My office is two blocks away from our Mercer Street shop, and I had promised to go over to the shop [on Fashion's Night Out] — it took me about two hours to get two blocks, because I was stopped every two minutes by people out on the street. It was like a block party”

The citywide shopping extravaganza – which blew past industry expectations last year as stores stayed open late and lured shoppers with food, drink and parties – has enlisted 1,000 stores to participate, up from 800.

This time, a flashy runway show at Lincoln Center will be added to the festivities on Sept. 7, with tickets starting at $25 each. Vogue Editor Anna Wintour and designer Diane Von Furstenberg have led promotion of the event.

London will be having their share of the fun a day later on September 8.

tribal at louis vuitton ss10 show(Louis Vuitton SS10 collection)

One of the major trends for Spring/Summer 2010 will be tribal themed. All things African and ethnic inspired was seen on the runways from Louis Vuitton to Jean Paul Gaultier and the trend is all about embracing strong prints and bold looks. Editorially it makes a great story and where i-D, Harpers Baazar have picked up on this tastefully,  controversy can lie in how its represented. Eager to reach this afrocentric ideal, D Mode magazine has taken the trend quite literally and chosen to paint Japanese models Mey Bun, Rila Fukushima and Ai-li Wang in black face.

Only last month we wrote about how French Vogue did the very same thing and it still baffles us that people would continue doing something so racially antagonistic without there being deeper underlying prejudices? The editorial itself, styled by Lauren Ossorio and photgraphed by Herring & Herring is eye-catching however would it have not been easier to find black models instead of painting japanese models? Is Tao Okamoto the Japanese Rihanna?

by Manny on 03/10/2009

rihtaobypbb

22 year-old Japanese model Tao Okamoto is fast becoming one of this years most popular faces after enjoying massive runway, editorial and campaign success. Having already worked with YSL, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton her big break came this year when her bowl cut hair became the signature look for all the models at the 3.1 Philip Lim show and inspired countless other imitations.

With an personal style as edgy as her runway walk, we can’t help but draw similarities between Tao and Rihanna. Aside from there similar hairstyles, in Tao’s current editorial for Vogue Nippon magazine (shot by Daniel Jackson and styled by Sissy Van) most of the clothes feel like they could be right out of Rihanna’s wardrobe.
