The earthquake, with a magnitude of 8.8, has killed at least 147 people in mainland Chile and prompted the evacuation of coastal areas on Easter Island.
Hawaiians are now braced for an expected tsunami as a result of the giant earthquake off the coast of Chile, as officials in the state evacuated thousands of residents and tourists to higher ground.
Our thoughts are with the people of Chile and Hawaii.
