Eminem‘s chart reign goes on. After a brief interruption two weeks ago courtesy of Arcade Fire, he promptly returned last week to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album sales chart, and that’s where he’s staying this week after selling another 116,000 copies of ‘Recovery’, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This is Eminem’s seventh week at No. 1 with ‘Recovery’ — more than anyone has racked up since Taylor Swift’s ‘Fearless’ in 2008 and 2009, and more than any rap album since OutKast’s ‘Speakerboxxx/The Love Below’ in 2003 and 2004.
Taylor Momsen along with her Pretty Reckless bandmates performed a cover of ‘Love The Way You Lie’ by Eminem and Rihanna for Radio 1′s Live Lounge today.
Eminem has announced plans to perform at the 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards.
To be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9PM ET, Eminem has accepted MTV’s invite as he continues to promote his latest album, ‘Recovery’.
During the show, Eminem joins a lineup already including big names in music such as Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Drake and B.o.B.
With Chelsea Handler set to host, stars slated to dish out awards to the winners include Ashley Greene, Selena Gomez, Penn Badgley, Ke$ha and Nick Minaj, amongst many others.
Roll Deep have scored their second No.1 single with ‘Green Light’.
The Grime collective knocked Flo’Rida from the top of The Official UK Top 40, and fended off Eminem and Rihanna with, ‘Love The Way You Lie’ which is this weeks number 2 for the second week running.
Roll Deep’s previous single ‘Good Times’ also reached the number one spot in April this year.
In the Official Albums Chart, ‘Iron Maiden’ storm to the number one spot with their eagerly awaited studio album ‘Final Frontier’. Iron Maiden have produced no less than 14 studio albums, the last entering the UK Charts in September 2006.
Eminem reclaimed the Number One spot on the Billboard 200 as ‘Recovery’ moved another 133,000 copies, moving past two million in sales. That makes it only the second release of 2010 to go double platinum. (Lady Antebellum’s ‘Need You Now’ was the first.) According to Nielsen SoundScan, ‘Recovery’ is also the first album since Andrea Bocelli’s ‘My Christmas’, released last November, to sell over 100,000 copies for eight consecutive weeks. One more week with 100,000-plus sales and Eminem will tie the nine-week record set by ‘Now 20′ in 2005. Eminem also retook the Digital Songs chart as ‘Love the Way You Lie’ pushed Taylor Swift’s ‘Mine’ out of the top spot.
In related news in an excerpt from VIBE‘s Juice issue, Eminem speaks on the day he gracefully bows out the game.
Honestly, I don’t know how much longer I have in this game. I’m always going to love hip-hop. But how much longer am I going to still do it? I couldn’t give you an answer. But the day that this is not better than the last will probably be the day I stop.I do love it so much. But even if I was rapping at 50 [years old], I don’t now if I would put it out. I know it always makes me feel better to lay things to tape, and—”Lay the tape.” See, I’m old school. The fans might say the shit is garbage. You don’t know how long people are going to want you around…Realistically, if I don’t rap, what the fuck am I going to do? It’s too late to be unfamous at this point.
The Saturday’s were vying for their first number one single for ‘Missing You’ but it wasn’t meant to be for The Saturdays as the single entered the charts at number three.
They were beaten by Eminem, who took the number two slot with ‘Love The Way You Lie’ featuring Rihanna, while Flo Rida took the coveted number one place with ‘Club Can’t Handle Me’
Elsewhere in the charts Tinchy Stryder entered at number 10 with ‘In My System’
In the Official Albums Chart, Arcade Fire and Eminem switch places. Eminem’s ‘Recovery’ leads the way (regaining the number one spot for a third time), with Arcade Fire’s ‘The Suburbs’ (last week’s number one – the band’s first in the UK) following at number two.
Huge congratulations go out to Eminem and Rihanna who have managed to smash a You Tube record with their latest video for “Love The Way You Lie”.
The smash hit, produced by UK rising talent, Alex Da Kid, gained over 6.6 million hits in it’s first 24 hours, making it the Best 60 hour Gainer Rate in the history of You Tube!
That figure has now risen to over 14 million hits in little over 60 hours! The startling figure smashed the one million plus views for Kanye’s “Power” promo which debuted on the same day.
We posted Eminem, now check out excerpts from the Dr Dre Vibe magazine ‘Juice’ issue.
When you first announced Detox did you think it would take this long?
Absolutely not. I thought it would take at worst case a couple of years. For example, actual work time on The Chronic was nine months and actual work time on my last album, 2001, was about 10 months. The actual work time on this album is about half of that, where I’m seriously focusing on it. There is always something coming up. Like signing talent, old and new.
So “Under Pressure” leaking was killer.
It was a little bit more frustrating because at least “Crack a Bottle” had a hook on it. I wouldn’t be as mad at a leak if the song was done.
Can you blame the fans for wanting to hear something after all this time?
Absolutely not. I’m not mad at the fans. I’m mad at the person that leaked the shit. I have no idea how it got out. It’s not even worth looking to see who did it. It happens. The most painful part about it is that I’m passionate about what I do so people should hear it in the right form.
There were some other reference tracks that leaked with T.I. and Ludacris lyrics. Were those legit?
Two of them were. Somebody actually hacked into our emails, so that made our red flags go up. We’re in a new age and that’s a sign: Wake up motherfucker. You have to be more careful with your shit. That’s all there is to it. I know what’s up now.
You mentioned a hip-hop album without rapping. Will we ever hear a Dr. Dre instrumental album?
Oh yeah, that’s in the works. An instrumental album is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I have the ideas for it. I want to call it The Planets. I don’t even know if I should be saying this, but fuck it. [Laughs.] It’s just my interpretation of what each planet sounds like. I’m gonna go off on that. Just all instrumental. I’ve been studying the planets and learning the personalities of each planet. I’ve been doing this for about two years now just in my spare time so to speak. I wanna do it in surround sound. It’ll have to be in surround sound for Saturn to work.
Lady Gaga has been nominated for a record-breaking 13 MTV Video Music Awards.
The Alejandro singer received the most nominations ever in a single year, earning nods in the Best Collaboration and Best Choreography categories, while Bad Romance and Telephone both made it into the shortlists for Video Of The Year.
I’m so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history,” said Gaga in a statement. ”Ironically, I’m even more proud it’s an unlucky number; 13.
Eminem leads the nominated male artists with eight VMA nods — including Video of the Year and Best Male Video — for his ‘Not Afraid’ visual.
Apparently MTV doesn’t care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMA’s. F me, right?!?! I mean, I’ll be there but don’t expect me to be nice about it.”
The 2010 VMAs will air live from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater on Sept. 12. Voting for general VMA categories starts today at vma.mtv.com.
