Jay Z and Kanye have broken an iTunes record set by Coldplay for the highest number of digital sales for an album during it’s first week. Watch the Throne has sold over 290,000 downloads, beating Chris Martin and Co’s 282,000 downloads of ‘Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends‘ back in 2008.
Billboard have said that they expect Watch the Throne to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with sales between 410,000 and 450,000.
While in the process of finishing up recording their fifth album, titled ‘Mylo Xyloto’ and doing the festival circuit this past summer, Coldplay sat down with Billboard for an interview on the status of their new release. Expected to hit stores October 25 in North America, Mylo Xyloto is Coldplay’s first release in three years
Florence & The Machine, Coldplay & Jay-Z (with special guests Kanye West , Beyonce, John Mayer and Chris Martin) all performed at The Cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight.
Beyonce performed ‘Forever Young’ with her husdand as well as performing ‘Halo’ with Chris Martin on the keys!

Meanwhile Kim Kardashian partied at Tao, Diddy at Lax and Rihanna at Pure Nightclub in Vegas!
Coldplay performed their new single, “Christmas Lights” with a little help from Take That’s Gary Barlow, live at the Liverpool Royal Court earlier this week.
The show was a fundraiser for charity, Crisis, a shelter for the homeless in Liverpool.
It’s the first time “Christmas Lights” has ever been performed on stage, and was the big finale of an amazing show which raised £250,000.
“Christmas Lights” is the brand new single from Coldplay.
In other Coldplay news, the band are currently taking a break from the studio and will be playing two special sold-out shows for the Crisis charity in Liverpool and Newcastle on 19th and 20th December respectively. Proceeds from these shows have already raised over £250,000 for the charity. The band will then return to the studio to complete their forthcoming fifth studio album which will be released in 2011.
Even though the Crisis shows are sold out, Nokia are offering people one more chance to get their hands on a pair of tickets.
According to the Sun Newspaper Prince and U2 have signed up to top the bill for the 2011 Glastonbury festival and Coldplay are likely to fill the third headline slot.
Seven-time Grammy winner Prince is one of the best performers of all time but rarely graces these shores.
Prince recently announced his ‘Welcome To America’ tour but no dates have yet to be released!
Dizzee Rascal is being lined up to replace U2 at this year’s Glastonbury festival if the band’s frontman Bono fails to recover in time following back surgery.
The ‘Bonkers’ rapper has been asked by the British music event’s organiser Michael Eavis to fill in for the Irish band after frontman Bono had emergency back surgery last week.
U2 were set to headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday June 25 but if Bono has not recovered in time, they will have to pull out.
Dizzee is currently set to play the set before U2 but may be promoted to close the evening.
However according to the Sun newspaper, Eavis has also phoned Coldplay – who are currently in the studio working on their fifth album – to see if they are available.
Coldplay were interviewed in Rio by Globo.com and during the interview Martin revealed that they will hopefully be releasing their next album this December.
The band also denied that the album would be their last for label EMI. “I think we have about 500 more,”Martin joked, before adding: “No, seriously, we signed for a lot.”
Coldplay have donated £1 million to the children’s charity Kids Company.
The charity which helps underprivileged children, received the donation from the band who have generously given the cash to help the organisation achieve its goals.
Coldplay have previously visited the charity’s various centres and as well as donating the money, also plan to give music lessons to the children. In related news the sold out Coldplay/ Jay-Z and Girls Aloud concerts at Wembley over the weekend have received rave reviews!
