by on 20/12/2011Rapper Common appeared on BET‘s 106 & Park while author and poet Maya Angelou decided to phone in to discuss her recent article in which she expressed her feelings regarding the use of the ‘N word’ on his single ‘The Dreamer’
Dr. Angelou appears on Common’s latest album The Dreamer/The Believer, reciting an original poem she wrote for the project.
She said:
“I don’t think the word disappointment quite makes it, I was surprised. I know that Common is brilliant. He may in fact be close enough to be called a genius—I’m not sure—I know that we are all in process, and young artists are in process.”

Over the weekend, PunchBowl Blog were in Atlanta to attend the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards, hosted by comedian Mike Epps. The awards, which took place at The Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center, celebrated the year of Hip Hop with categories including Best Featured Verse, Best Collaboration, People’s Champ Award and Best Club Banger.
Kicking off the show, TI made his return to the game with a performance with Young Jeezy, while other artits who took to the stage included Rick Ross and his Maybach Music Group signees Wale and Meek Mill, Wiz Kalifah, Big Sean and Lupe Fiasco -whose mystery vocalist turned out to be Miss Erykah Badu. Performance of the night had to be DMX who, with Swizz Beatz as his hype man, performed a medly of hits which got the crowd on their feet.
