Beyonce has become a new topic of study at Rutgers University in New Jersey, who will offer ‘Politicising Beyonce’ as part of their Department Of Women’s and Gender Studies.
The course will assess the ‘Crazy In Love’ hitmaker’s significance culturally and politically in the Western world.
Kevin Allred, the PhD student teaching the course, told the official University website:
“This isn’t a course about Beyoncé’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend.She certainly pushes boundaries. While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.He added: “Of course, there are people who’ll say, ‘You’re not black. You’re not a woman’. It’s something I’m always questioning and staying aware of so as not to overstep any bounds or make any claims for a group that I don’t belong to. It’s a fine line and I want to remain respectful of that.”

by on 29/01/2012Legendary singer Etta James was eulogized with stirring musical performances from chart-topping stars Christina Aguilera and Stevie Wonder, and the Rev. Al Sharpton honored the Riverside resident as “the original diva” at private funeral ceremonies Saturday morning.
President Barack Obama sent his condolences through a letter, read by Sharpton at the beginning of the service at the Greater Bethany Community Church City of Refuge in Gardena. The Obama family expressed sadness at the loss and wrote of her lasting legacy in music, saying, “Etta will be remembered for her legendary voice.”
